The Redmond Partnership for Student Success program provided over 350 job shadows in the 2006-2007 school year. The program ensures that area high school students get an opportunity to not only experience an occupation, but to understand what education and personal skills are needed to be successful.
Originally developed with E3's assistance in 2004, the program has been embraced by the school district and become part of the curriculum of the Futures Class, a graduation requirement. Students are required to create resumes, cover letters, and portfolios of work for prospective job positions. They then contact employers to arrange an “interview". At the end of the interview, the student shadows the employer for the remainder of the time. There is also significant post shadow work done by the students, such as thank you letters and evaluations.
Students consistently state that the experience is beneficial to them in a variety of ways. Employers are actively engaged, and happy to participate in a meaningful way.
While E3 is no longer active in this community on a day-to-day basis, we are extremely proud of the partnerships that have been built between the school district and the local business community -- a partnership that helps make for greater student success. We continue to monitor the success of the program.
