The Redmond Partnership for Student Success established a job shadow program to help students understand the skills and knowledge required for success in college and the workplace.  Each year roughly 350 students participate in a 3-hour job shadow at local employers.  The program has been embraced by the school district and become part of the curriculum of the Futures Class, a graduation requirement. Students are required to create resumes, cover letters, and portfolios of work for prospective job positions. They then contact employers to arrange an interview. At the end of the interview, the student shadows the employer for the remainder of the time. There is also significant post shadow work done by the students, such as thank you letters and evaluations.Students consistently state that the experience is beneficial to them in a variety of ways. Employers are actively engaged, andhappy to participate in a meaningful way.
