The Newberg Partnership for Student Success program brings together employers, community leaders and educators to focus efforts on helping students become more proficient writers by
- Promoting the importance of writing in the workplace and life
- Mentoring students in writing
- Celebrating and publishing student writing
In its pilot year, twenty writing students and their mentors worked together once a week to focus on strengthening writing skills. Guest speakers visit classrooms to describe the importance of writing in a variety of careers and professions. The Newberg Graphic publishes student writing once a month in the "Write Corner," a half page dedicated to showcasing student writing.
The district and business community are enthusiastic about the program and plan to expand the effort next year with an even greater emphasis on projects that will affect academic outcomes.
As the community and district have taken ownership of the program, E3's active participation has been reduced, but we continue to stay involved to evaluate, advise and celebrate the success of the program.
