Learning at Work
"The E3 program lets us directly help kids see just how important graduating is, and the many opportunities available to them for a career."
Emerson Smoker, Sr. Owner
Rite Way Electric, Inc. and
Chairman of the Board
Albany Area Chamber of Commerce
Started with E3's technical assistance in 2005, the E3 program connects students with employers to give them an opportunity to experience how what they learn in school applies to a business setting. It helps make school relevant and shows students there are real life opportunities for them when they graduate.
Community Update
Students from three Albany high schools have been visiting a wide range of local businesses and industries, (24 employers are participating) and they have been attending weekly meetings with coordinators to connect their studies with what they will learn at the site visits. Program success factors include increased attendance, improved grades, and course completion for participants, as well as a graduation plan. The district and community are very excited about the program and are looking to expand it next year. As the community and district have taken ownership of the program, E3's active participation has been reduced, but we continue to stay involved to evaluate, advise and celebrate the success of the program.
