The Freshmen with Futures program brought educators, employers, and community leaders together to focus on helping freshmen students make a more successful transition into high school.  Studies show that students who have a successful 9th grade experience almost always graduate from high school.  One key factor for their success is the support of parents and other adults who help them understand why education is important to their future.  More than 75 local employer mentors met monthly with 550 students in small groups of students to serve as role models and mentors. Mentors helped students understand that their efforts in high school will impact them as they develop goals and visions for the future -- no matter what direction they choose. They provided an understanding of the skills and knowledge required by various careers and helped make the connection between school and the world of work.  Despite its early success, the district made the difficult decision to discontinue the program due to limited resources and a high school restructuring process.
