Albany’s Learning-at-Work effort matches high school juniors who are not achieving their academic potential with local businesses to expose students to the skills and knowledge required by a wide range of careers. In 2009, twelve students from three Albany high schools visited local workplaces and met with professionals to understand workforce skills and reinforce the direct link between classroom education and quality jobs. They also have regular contact with their school’s program coordinator to focus on school success, life skills and a graduation plan. Thirty-five local employers are actively involved in the program. The program is making a difference for students. Participants have demonstrated improved grades, attendance, behavior and course completion.
"The E3 program lets us directly help kids see just how important graduating is, and the many opportunities available to them for a career."

"Learning at Work has been a lifeline for many students. Providing them opportunity to visit sites in our community, listen to real employees tell their stories in addition to receiving academic support may just be the difference between graduation and not."
