Dr. Elliot Washor to Speak at HS Institute
Annual High School Institute Held June 26-27, 2006
Dr. Elliot Washor, co-director of both The Big Picture Company and The Metropolitan Career and Technical Center (The MET) in Providence, RI will be the featured speaker at the Oregon High School Institute on June 26-27, 2006 at the Kingstad Center in Beaverton, Oregon. In addition, members of the State K-12 and Higher Education Boards will be featured guests and presenters. The two-day event explores strategies for improving Oregon high schools. Participants will learn about what is happening in high schools across Oregon and gain a deeper understanding of effective school reform strategies.
Day One - Personalized Learning: Engaging Students - looks at design structures and instructional practices that support personalization. Day Two - Preparing Students for Success: College, Work & Citizenship – discusses ways to engage the broader community in student achievement, use existing outcomes to revise and align curriculum, and how to use professional/technical courses to prepare students for college and work. Break out groups and discussion sessions will provide participants with ample opportunity to share information and network with their colleagues.
The two-day event on high school reform is co-sponsored by E3: Employers for Education Excellence, Oregon Gear Up, Leadership Matters, the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, the State of Oregon and the Leaders Roundtable. Cost is $95 per participant – limit of 10 participants per school.
