Students Star at E3 Celebration

Over 120 business and education leaders attended the E3 10th Anniversary Celebration and Partners Reception on November 1st at the Oregon Historical Society.  The reception was sponsored by Azumano Travel, Medford Fabrication, and The Standard.

The program featured sophomores Kendra Berryman and Aaron McCleary from Renaissance Arts Academy on the Marshall campus, as the evening’s emcees.  Aaron reported the Marshall High School campus, one of the first schools to participate in the E3 Oregon Small Schools Initiative, is showing that enrollment and attendance is up.  As well, the number of students with a 3.0+ GPA has increased campus wide.

Kendra introduced several students (pictured below) from new small schools on the Roosevelt campus.  They impressed the crowd with their interest in school and their personal stories of success. The students were pleased to report on exciting early indicators of success at their schools including: the percentage of students meeting or exceeding benchmarks in math is up 14.8% and scores in science are up 21.9%.

During the reception, three special corporate partners were recognized for their long-standing support of E3. Ted Austin from US Bank, Morgan Anderson from Intel, and Doug Nichols from PGE received appreciation awards on behalf of their companies.

E3’s executive director, Rene Leger, thanked all of E3’s business and education partners for their support and invited the guests to tour the new photo exhibit The Way We Worked, from the National Archives.  A retrospect of American workers over the past 150 years, the exhibit exemplified how the skills of workers and their educational needs have changed through history.

Special thanks to Sho Dozono of Azumano Travel, Bill Thorndike, Jr. of Medford Fabrication, and Jodi Jordan of The Standard for their help in sponsoring the evening.
