Show it Counts! Campaign
Program Summary
Show it Counts! was a statewide communications campaign to encourage greater community involvement and support in helping students reach high standards. A partnership program created by E3 in collaboration with the Oregon Business Council and the Oregon University System in 2001. Since the program kickoff in the fall of 2001 the Show it Counts! message was delivered in over 30 communities statewide through presentations to Chambers of Commerce, Rotary Clubs and other employer groups. E3 received the prestigious “Salute to Success” award in December of 2001 from the Oregon School Boards Association for the contribution Show it Counts! made to Oregon schools.
Building Support for Students to Reach High Standards
Across
Oregon, schools work hard to raise the level
of student achievement. The results are encouraging – test scores are up across the board, more students
are engaged in their learning, and educators are committed
to improvement.
But if Oregon schools are going to continue to improve,
they need support from the entire community. A team
approach – with business and community members
pitching in to work with educators, parents and students
– is essential. Schools need help in sending students
the message that hard work and academic achievement
really do matter.
The award winning Show it Counts! program:
- Celebrated
the positive results of Oregon’s efforts at
raising standards in K-12 public schools.
- Communicated
the advantages of supporting high standards from
a business perspective.
- Encouraged
employers to take specific actions to support high
standards and promote their value, both in schools
and in the workplace.
- Created the Employer How-to Guide to direct employers through the process of implementing strategies to support Oregon schools.

Success Stories Celebrate Oregon Schools Reaching High Standards
As a result of the Show it Counts! Campaign several employers partnered with E3 to help Oregon schools. These are what we call Success Stories.
Standard Insurance partnered with Open Meadow Alternative School in North Portland to dramaticlly improve student opportunities for academic achievement. Click the following link to read more about this success story:
In partnership with E3, Fred Meyer participated in the Show it Counts! Campaign by running a series of advertisements recognizing Oregon schools making outstanding progress in reaching high academic standards. During the 2002-03 school year, Fred Meyer used a portion of its advertising space to share the important education improvement efforts underway in Oregon. Each feature spotlighted the successful results achieved by students at a different local school.
The Fred Meyer advertisements illustrated one of the strategies promoted through Show it Counts! – sharing information about education improvement with others.
